The hammock and slippers tales of Songdog are relayed in some beauty here, with all the honesty, emotion and solitude of a Radio two listener's perfect morning poaching eggs and watering plants. 'The Time Of Summer Lightning' is a downbeat tale founded on doubt, tragedy and love lost that will get you thinking, most likely about unrequited love.

Driven by Lyndon Morgan's stirring vocals, highlights include ‘My Space Rock Type’ - a melodic number with a mildly addictive chorus and 'Fairytale' a moody duet with, intriguingly, their manager Corrinne Frazzoni. A rather odd cover of The Clash’s ‘Janine Jones’ follows but fails top convince it is worthy. A darker side is apparent in places with some darker lyrics slipping into the fold on ‘The Republic Of Howlin Wolf’ “It hurts when I piss / Last night there were demons”. The least you’d expect is gonorrhoea after sharing a bed with a demon. Honest stuff indeed.

Listening to this record in its entirety may be tiresome such is the emotive mood and tempo but at the right moment, this album is capable of turning your reality into daydreams. Whether that’s because it moves you or bores you is open to interpretation. A lack of diversity suggests it might lean towards the latter.
