Texas Terri And The Stiff Ones - Eat Shit plus 4

by Miles Hackett

Retrospective release from the flame-haired queen of garage punk

"As with many early incarnations of bands material, this album isn’t the full six pack and may only appeal to the converted or the very least those partisans fixated with quiffs and sailor jerry imagery."

Tattooed punk vixen Texas Terri Bomb has been cranking out her kitsch Stooges meets the Runaways rock round the sweaty clubs of the garage punk circuit for around seven years, racking up two albums along the way. Rewind to the beginning of her career in ’99 & what you get to do is eat her shit.

This album is a re-release of the debut album that saw her strutting entrance onto the garage scene. It’s a rough & ready ride through the sleazy underbelly of a mondo bizarre world. Terri’s raspy vocal drawl snarls through tracks like ‘Mick’s Bitch’ & ‘Burgers & Fries (You’re Not Alive)’. Its part MC5, a bit Cramps maybe even a dash of the Dwarves here & there.

As with many early incarnations of bands material, this album isn’t the full six pack & may only appeal to the converted or the very least those partisans fixated with quiffs & sailor jerry imagery. Its simplistic musical approach & occasionally clichéd lyricism often fails to ignite enthusiasm. You are left pondering whether Texas Terri’s saving grace is probably her semi naked amazonian image on the cover. However albums like this have to be taken on face value, it’s not out to change the world just poke fun at it. For that you can’t really knock her however this is an album for the diehards really.
