"Just as it seems that it’s about to end it suddenly launches into a fantastic full-blown operatic soundscape that reminds you why this boys are so highly regarded."
My Morning Jacket – Touch Me I’m Going To ScreamThis terrific piece of understated lo-fi rock from the American rockers mooches along with a pleasant mix of heavy piano, clean guitars and breathless vocals and is all very nice. Then, just as it seems that it’s about to end, it suddenly launches into a fantastic full-blown operatic soundscape that reminds you why this boys are so highly regarded.
Capitol K – Libertina
Quirky music that sound as if it could be lifted from an Amiga computer game and lyrics like, "Yep life is strange / metaphysical questions never to be explained" combine to create something genuinely quite interesting.
Elle Milano – Laughing All The Way To The Plank
Despite a name that sounds like another female popstar, this bunch of lads are clearly on the pulse. Lyrics about buying houses are nicely topical what with the credit crunch and all and this fast, spiky and fun piece of rock-punk is catchy enough to warrant repeated listens.
Moby – I Love To Move In Here
Do we need any more 1980s trance music? Moby thinks so, but he’s wrong. Everything from the crowd-cheering sample to the guest rap in the middle is dull and derivative. You won’t be hearing this on any TV advertisements, thank God.
Six Toes – Four Leaf Clover
At 5 minutes and 17 seconds, this is no single and the fact it’s a slow, mournful song with melodic violins and delicate acoustic guitar means there’s even less chance you would ever hear it in Radio 1’s Top 40 countdown. But it’s bloody lovely and worth a listen if this sort of things floats your proverbial boat.
Five O’Clock Heroes feat. Agyness Deyn - Who
Agyness Deyn decides she wants to prove she has more talent than just looking pretty, and kind of succeeds. Hardly original stuff, but it’s a pop single no question. Bouncy chords, simple lyrics about a girl liking a boy and all treated as just a bit of fun. A bit like Ms Deyn herself one imagines.
Holly Rose – Apple
Another female enters the pop battleground. Harking back to the R’n’B pop sound of the 1990s, this a perfectly enjoyable piece of instantly forgettable bubblegum pop. Some teenage girls will think it's amazing, but for everyone else, it’s not. It’s just okay.
This Is Me – Demon Rebel
This is the new project for two members of Cornish rockers Reef. Sadly their return to the musical scene fails to recapture the magic on this rock-by-numbers song; crunchy guitars, distorted vocals and the final slow-build-up-to-big-final-chorus ending are from Rock Song Writing 101.
Nickelback – Photograph
Chad Kroger’s voice is still suffering from his gravel addiction and he still continues to write hilariously bad lyrics: "Look at this photograph / Everytime I do it makes me laugh / How did our eyes get so red? / And what the hell is on Joey's head?" Perhaps turn the flash off Chad? Actually worth a listen just for a laugh.

I heard Holly rose live and she's certainly not bubblegum pop.. she's a talented artist that i'm sure will struggle like them all.. I say good luck to her.. my daughter certainly likes her music.
