Stig Of The Dump
Thomas Rhythm
Got a spare room?
"His lyrics flow with the gritty edge that shapes his existence. Quite literally his life depends on it. Take away his rhymes and you have erm... Johnny Vegas, but a lot funnier. "
Stig Of The Dump is an aptly named MC and a self-proclaimed "fat, hairy, northern, homeless, drunken arsehole". Swap "homeless" for "rampantly unfunny" and you have Johnny Vegas’ fat finders' profile. Beer slug image aside, he can spit a seriously good rhyme.
Stig is battle hardened (he has a growing reputation for his freestyle battles), talented (he can spit rhymes with venomous realism) he has the beats (thanks largely to producer Ido) and he wrote and recorded this record in just 7 days. The anger-driven fury that gives him true UK hip-hop grit is more grumpy and grimy than guns and gangsters but the ghetto rhetoric is there, albeit about Newcastle estates rather than New York suburbs.
‘The Introduction’ does have the gangster twang and the customary ‘fuck you’ ego, but outwits a lot of his fellow Microphonists. The Blufoot produced ‘Rhite Whino’ exposes Stig’s wit and ability to double verse with ease, featuring the one and only sample on the record. His typically British humour is also rife on the spoof sounding ‘(h)ill Billys’ which takes a firm swipe at pikeys; oh the irony. ‘On A Rampage’ bumps along with a phat and dark funk-tinged beat with Stig spitting some more political charged verses whilst holding down his freestyle sentiment.
‘I Never’ sees Stig relaying his situation in his own crude kitchen sink style; "Threw up on myself again and it’s an awful stench / I’m fucked up passed out on the park bench / Half drenched in piss and vomit / Still gripping a bottle of frosted jack and a huge hip flask of gin and tonic". His lyrics are raw and flow with the gritty edge that shapes his existence. "Forgive me if I don’t listen to you internet critics / I’m in a situation where I have to kill it". Quite literally his life depends on it. Take away his rhymes and you have erm... Johnny Vegas, but a lot funnier. This record will do more than just put a roof over his head, and rightly so.
