Innerpartysystem

Stunning US electro-rockers

"Those who are willing to open their minds, let their bodies dance and fall over themselves at the sheer joy of this music can allow it to bring them many nights of joy."

Maybe it’s just NN, but when we see bands following a certain trend we can’t help but feel like they’re playing things safe. In following a certain trend, they find themselves among a stock pile of bands like themselves that labels are pouring over themselves to sign because it’ll mean lots of money. And when said trend dies, if the band are worth their salt they can ascertain a lengthy career, but only if they’re worth it.

Enter innerpartysystem, a new dance/rock outfit screaming from the US of A. IPS have been making quite a name for themselves in the last 12 months, having moved on from their indie beginnings onto stadium tours and signing with big-wigs Island, you’d be forgiven for wondering if the band are merely heading down the road to ruin. That is until you give their debut outing a whirl.

From the opening salvo of ‘Die Tonight, Live Forever’ on their self-titled album, the band appear to have more in common with Nine Inch Nails than Enter Shikari, as their groove laden, electro rock proceeds to bore through the listener like an act of trepanation. Add to this the dancability of tracks such as ‘Don’t Stop’ and the unrepentant beauty of 'Structure' and you’re left with an album that not only screams originality and power, but seems to continue down the genre mashing path that allowed bands such as The Prodigy to reign supreme over the music-loving masses.

Granted some will hate this for being a little too close to the "cool kids” for comfort, but those who are willing to open their minds, let their bodies dance and fall over themselves at the sheer joy of this music can allow it to bring them many nights of joy. And as for being worth their salt? Well, IPS are more than worth theirs.

Ok kids, listen to this band. If Don't Stop doesn't spark something inside you then go back to listening to the radio and kill yourself. After all; music and life aren't for everyone.
