The Great Escape has announced the first tranche of bands booked to perform at the annual festival in May 2008. The 2007 Mercury Prize nominated trio Young Knives have been perpetually building a firm reputation for themselves with two albums under their belt and a potential chart breaker record for March 2008- just in time for their Great Escape appearance. This year’s bright new young things Joe Lean and the Jing Jang Jong are out on the NME tour in the early part of 2008 so will be ready for a blistering performance on arrival at The Great Escape.
The Great Escape have been booking in the bands for their Mojo sponsored stage which will feature acts like Black Mountain from British Columbia, Tunng who will be bringing their electronic folk sound hot off the back of shows in Australia and France and talented young Paris based artist Peter Von Poehl.
Other artists confirmed to play include Brighton’s best kept secret Fujiya & Miyagi who Mojo heralds as “Exhilarating” and “Impressively Melodic”, Lightspeed Champion Devonte Hynes’ new venture of charming country folk pop and David Brewis of Field Music fame will also be showcasing his new project School of Language.

Rising out of the east Plastic Factory has arrived as the love child of Captain Beefheart and Siouxsie Sioux. Its inaugural debut is set for Thursday 28th February 2008 at Juno Bar, Shoreditch. Plastic Factory’s welcomes you to rejoice in the incarnation of Glam Rock, Punk, New Wave, Goth and Grunge played by your regular hosts Frankie and Christine. Whilst special guests will be challenged to keep the music they play haunting. The first contestant will be Andrew from the Violets – Good luck old chum. To complement this, goody bags will be handed out to the first 50 through the door that will provide you with your rock star ident-a-kit, as punters are asked to emulate their favourite rock star for the night by the cheap and cheerful means of card board and glitter. Keeping you salivating for more the ‘Plastic’ mix CD will be given to the chosen few, so that memories can be relived in your bedroom every night until the next Plastic Factory.
Leap years bring out the eccentrics and it is time to indulge in your dark side at Plastic Factory. This new night will soon become a steadfast in the London clubbing scene so be sure to be there at the beginning.

And as always, under 14’s are completely free when accompanied by an adult.
The Secret Garden Party is conceived as a four day party like no other, a place where imagination knows no schedules or boundaries. It is founded on creative participation of all kinds, whether that’s performing Shakespeare round the fire circles, staging a custard pie battle on the lake or building the sculpture of your dreams. It is an Arts event, with ticket monies spread evenly between musicians, actors, installation artists, healers and public performers. Most importantly it is a party where everyone has the chance to get under the spotlight, from the headline Main Stage act to the hula-hooping eccentric in the setting sun. The Head Gardeners would not have it any other way.
This July The Secret Garden Party will be exploring the Revolutions of Past, Present and Future, from the physical through to the conceptual. We will be asking all Gardeners to stage their own revolutions, devolutions and evolutions bringing the Garden to life with parades, music, sculpture and theatre.
Happening once again in its stunning location in the East Anglian countryside, near Huntingdon, the event will have an array of the best up and coming artists performing alongside some bona fide legends; and many celebrated on-site shenanigans for which The Secret Garden Party has become so affectionately synonymous. The festival has become notorious for championing the hit-makers of tomorrow with past performers including KT Tunstall (2004), Noisettes (2005), Hard Fi (2005), The Rumble Strips (2006), Lily Allen (2006), Newton Faulkner (2007), Reverend And The Makers (2007) and Metronomy (2007)… with this years line up looking to top them all.
ROCKNESS
UNDERWORLD LATEST MONSTER NESS ACT
Dance legends to Rock the Ness
ROCK NESS organisers have confirmed dance supremos UNDERWORLD as the latest massive act set to Rock the Loch this summer.
Joining what is already a monster line up, this Rock Ness Scottish festival exclusive, is sure to generate a rapturous response from fans.
The band, currently in the middle of a major world tour as Underworld Live, is enjoying a critically acclaimed renaissance with their awesome latest album Oblivion with Bells. This release, the fifth studio album from the electronic masters marks a stunning return to form.
Many are hailing Oblivion with Bells as Underworld’s finest hour in fifteen years, their most voracious since Dubnobasswithmyheadman swept across and redefined the face of dance music. Playing to euphoric audiences across Europe with founding members Karl Hyde and Rick Price at the helm, the new material and visually creative live shows signals an exciting and totally fresh evolution from one of dance music’s most enduring acts.
UNDERWORLD will join many of the biggest names in rock, electronic and dance at the third Rock Ness festival this summer. They join an eclectic, genre-defying star line up which includes FATBOY SLIM, RAZORLIGHT, THE VIEW, EDITORS, CSS, ROISIN MURPHY, DIGITALISM, THE CRIBS, HADOUKEN!, THE CUBAN BROTHERS and SIMIAN MOBILE DISCO.
Rock Ness favourites 2MANYDJS make a welcome return with their expanded increased capacity Radiosoulwax arena and DAVID GUETTA will be flying in to host his legendary F**K ME I’M FAMOUS Ibiza club night in an exclusive arena. Also making a very special appearance is legendary Chicago house DJ FELIX DA HOUSECAT, one who can truly claim his place amongst the dance music elite.
Organisers have confirmed a string of top acts have still to be announced very soon, including further headline acts.
Once again, Rock Ness will continue to showcase the finest unsigned breakthrough music talent across the weekend via the GoNORTH Xposure stage. The stars of today playing with the stars of tomorrow! Adding to the festival fun will be the return of the popular Nesstival arena brought especially to The Highlands by the award-winning Bestival which will include the fashion-fabulous dressing up tent, whacko Lost in Sound experience, Bollywood Cocktail Bar plus loads of other fun surprises. And with a host of other new on-site areas including Black Isle Pub and The Whisky Bar the Rock Ness weekend hospitality offering promises to be a suitably stylish affair.
Rock Ness, now firmly established as one of the most hotly anticipated summer music fixtures, is being staged this year on Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 June. It will take place on the shores of iconic Loch Ness, outside the village of Dores, four miles south-west of Inverness.
TICKETS ARE ON SALE NOW costing £100.00 for the weekend (subject to booking fee) and are available from www.ticketline.co.uk <http://www.ticketline.co.uk/> or 0844 888 7625. Also available in Person: GLASGOW: Tickets Scotland and SEC box office, EDINBURGH: Tickets Scotland and Ripping, DUNDEE: Grouchos, ABERDEEN: One Up and INVERNESS Mania and HMV. For a nominal fee fans also have the opportunity to upgrade to VIP status.
A dedicated campsite will be in place. Situated adjacent to the main site, festival goers can soak up the beauty of the ancient surrounding forests as well as enjoying panoramic views of mystical Loch Ness. Weekend tickets with camping cost £115.00 (subject to booking fee). The campsite will host a wide range of food concessions and a round-the-clock café.
A pan-Scotland coach service will be operated by Citylink with shuttle buses from Inverness to Dores. Car parking will also be available adjacent to the site.
Further information on the above can be found at www.rockness.co.uk <http://www.rockness.co.uk/>
Rock Ness is presented by Loudsound, producers of Creamfields and the award-winning Isle of Wight boutique festival Bestival, and co promoters of Knowsley Hall music festival, and Slingshot, the Highland-based promoters behind the Belladrum, Loopallu and GoNORTH music festivals.
Xfm is the official broadcast radio partner of Rock Ness, broadcasting live to over 1.6 million listeners, and will host the main stage at the festival.
QUOTES
Jim King, Joe Gibbs and Robert Hicks – Loudsound and Slingshot
“ Underworld are one of the acts that have been on our list ever since we started the festival. They are one of the most important electronic bands of all time with an unrivalled output of classic studio albums. But for me its their live performances that show the band in their purest, rawest and most powerful form and they are simply amazing. Karl is one of the best live performers I have had the fortune to work with and we are overjoyed they have confirmed for this year’s festival.”
UNDERAGE FESTIVAL
After the success for last year’s Underage Festival we are pleased to announce that it is back for 2008. This years festival will take place on the 8th August in Victoria Park and the capacity has been increased to 7,000 from 5,000 to cater for the high levels of demand. Tickets are on sale now so please do news piece about the return of Underage Festival!
After last year’s massive sell out success, Underage is returning to the playground of Victoria Park for its second year of a modern music master class. The world’s first incarnation of the Underage festival in 2007 was an unprecedented summer sensation with festival favorites such as Jack Penate, The Pigeon Detectives, Foals, Mystery Jets, Patrick Wolf, The Metros, Scouting for Girls amongst a detention hall full of the brightest bands gracing the stages and charts in the year Underage brought itself to the forefront of innovative and mainstream festivals. The Underage demand for the pioneering festival massively outweighed supply and now with the regular club nights going from strength to strength and Underage gigs popping up all over the country, 2008 will see the original purveyors return for round two of the groundbreaking summer festival.
Last year’s festival received a wealth of A+ reviews and Gold Star plaudits from the media. >From Sunday Times Style and The Observer to Teen Vogue and Time Magazine to Artrocker and NME to the 6 o’clock news, London Tonight and Radio 1, this was an event that captured the imagination of a nation and tapped into a vibrant and buoyant scene set by Britain’s youth.
Curator Sam Killcoyne, now a veteran at 16 will return with his unbridled passion to curate the summer’s hottest ticket event. With not one complaint and an impeccably behaved crowd in 07 the organizers will this year be increasing the capacity from 5,000 to 7,000 to meet the insatiable demand of the underage music scene and putting together a line up strong enough to wish you were 16 all over again.
All media partners will be returning including BBC Radio 1 and BBC Switch who will be supporting the festival this year, recording live music from the event for later broadcast.
Jason Carter, Head of Live Events Radio 1 and 1Xtra said "Radio 1 are delighted to be returning for the second year to the underage festival. The festival has a great line-up and is building in reputation year on year. It's fantastic to see credible events emerging that cater for the younger end of the audience"
Artrocker Editor Marc Sallis said: ‘The Underage Festival was the highlight of the year for Artrocker Magazine. To be able to work with such a truly special and unique event was an honour and seeing the reaction of the 18 and under crowd was a very rewarding experience. We hope that we can repeat this success through our association with the festival in 2008 and we look forward to seeing even more teens being able to enjoy the excitement of live music in Victoria Park this year’.
Andrew Reid, Head of Marketing UK for Converse “ Converse was pleased to be part of the 07 festival, we had great success both on site and off site with the Underage Organisation. Converse are looking forward to being the main stage partner in 08. This year is the Converse century year and we want to celebrate this with the 18’s and under amongst other age groups and the Underage Festival gives us the perfect platform to celebrate the 100 years of Converse with 18’s and below………...
What the Papers say:
The Times 'At The Underage Festival in East London most of the artists were veterans of the Club scene, making it a true culmination of the Underage Club’s achievements”
The Observer ‘Not many debut music-festivals have garnered as much attention as this one, boasting an assortment of unsigned, new and reputable talent’
Time Magazine ‘Underage was a day of good, clean, sweaty, noisy rock that provided the real highs.’
I-D Magazine ‘Five thousand kiddiewinks going bonkers for bands and throwing their shoes at their onstage heroe s- the crowds went home happy, the festival a triumph.’
