Festival preview: Wild in the Country

Long a venue linked to live music, Hertfordshire's Knebworth House plays host to Renaissance’s Wild in the Country event this July. An 18 hour spectacular set in this beautiful gothic mansion’s parks and gardens, the festival will see performances from an at times uncomfortable mix of live acts and DJ’s.

If for any reason you tire of the likes of Bjork, Foals, Pendulum, Soulwax, Late of The Pier and Killa Kela, you can always mooch about in a giant 600 capacity chill-out tipi, a victorian funfair, twisted tearooms and an enchanted wood.

If even that’s not enough to whet your appetite, then aside from the live music - and as you'd expect from a Renaissance event - there’s DJ’s galore. The dance music line-up includes M.A.N.D.Y., James Zabiela, Annie Mac, Ame, Plump DJs and Norman Jay.

All this said, perhaps the most striking thing about the festival website is its restraint in the "we're weird and whacky" stakes. In a time when chill out tipis and twisted tearooms feel a bit old hat, the dirty stench of a festival that doesn't dress itself in ribbons and shove boutique down your throat is positively a breath of fresh air.
