Perhaps best known by those outside the metal fraternity for 2006's tales of bonfires and bottle throwing, Download remains a highlight on the festival calendar for those who like their rock hard and hairy. Combining the sort of leather clad monoliths that used to define Donington's Monsters Of Rock festival with a blend of new blood - including a regular dose of emo - Download continues to offer one of the heaviest billings of all the UK festivals.

This year's headliners all feel a little backward looking: Kiss, Offspring and Lost Prophets closing the three days with Jimmy Eat World, Judas Priest and Motorhead all further down the bill. Elsewhere though, there's more variety - the Tuborg stage gets as soft hearted as the Subways and as far away from rock as Lethal Bizzle.

The bottle throwing unfortunately remains a regular feature of the festival - My Chemical Romance bearing the brunt of the attack last year - as well as, rather disasterously for our beleagured editor, being scheduled slap bang in the middle of hayfever season. Even so, if rawwwwk's your thing, it's worse splashing out on the antihistimines.
