Bring Me The Horizon - Suicide Silence

by Tom Brumpton

Brilliant second album from Sheffield's most-hated

"It’d be easy to simply dismiss the band's latest effort ‘Suicide Silence’ as more of the same. However, to do so would be to rob BMTH of some much deserved kudos."

Since crashing into magazines the world over back in 2006, Sheffield quintet Bring me the Horizon haven’t really done themselves many favours. Writing songs about dead girls, writing atypical deathcore bullshit and getting court cases wrapped around their necks for allegedly peeing on someone and assaulting them with a glass bottle aren’t really the most mature or, well let's be fair, sensible things to do.

This said; it’d be easy to simply dismiss the band's latest effort ‘Suicide Silence’ as more of the same. However, to do so would be to rob BMTH of some much deserved kudos. From the electronic intro and solid riffage of ‘The Comedown’, through to the catchy, if not slightly “scene” lyrics of ‘It Was Written In Blood’, it’s clear that over the last few years the band have been adamant to rid themselves of the musical cross that they have worn.

Another plus are the vocals, no longer does Oli Sykes sound like a cat being circumcised without anaesthetic , now the frontman could even be held on par with the likes of The Haunted’s Peter Dolving, as his voice cuts through tracks such as ‘Death Breath’ and the whippet-fast grind of ‘Football Season Is Over’ like a knife through butter.

Fact is, you might hate BMTH for one reason or another, and that’s fine. But before you begin knocking the band, give ‘Suicide Silence’ a chance. Rife with originality, whilst more than wielding a solid metal edge, this is a top-notch modern metal album from the Steel City lads. Well done boys, well done.

Dude the name of the album isn't "Suicide Silence". That's the name of a different fucking band. Suicide Season is what you were thinking of. If you're gonna write an article about a band. At least know what you're talking about.
