Eternal Lord - Blessed Be This Nightmare

by Simon T Diplock

Swindon bruisers aren't big or clever

"For a few seconds these songs seem like they could go somewhere great but really, even at its brawniest and best, this album can do no better than simply keep par with the thousands of other similarly heavy but hollow acts currently clogging up toilet venues the world over."

Since starting in 2005, Swindon bruisers Eternal Lord have made a fairly decent name for themselves in UK hardcore. But while that could be down to their heavy touring schedule, their intense live show, or the fact that three of the band used to rock and roll with trendy deathcore troupe The Hunt For Ida Wave, it’s certainly nothing to do with their tunes. It just can’t be, at least not if ‘Blessed Be This Nightmare’ is anything to go by.

From its clunky title to its even clunkier lyrics and riffs see, this record is utterly unessential. Oh it’s loud, it’s competent, and it sounds a bit like other donwtuned bawlers in Bring Me The Horizon and Dead To Fall, but unlike those bands’ debuts, there’s not a single special note present here. Yeah, yeah, ‘Get To Fuck’ is repellently tough-guy stuff (we almost don’t want to turn in a negative word about it in case the band or their ‘pit crew’ get nasty) and for a few seconds ‘I, The Deceiver’ seems like it could go somewhere great (it doesn’t), but really, even at its brawniest and best, this can do no better than simply keep par with the thousands of other similarly heavy but hollow acts currently clogging up toilet venues the world over.

With a Ferret Records badge attached and riffs as slow as steady as the one that anchors ‘Blessed’ to the floor, this album is going to get the band plenty more Myspace plays and maybe a few more real-life fans too, but here’s hoping, for their sake, that Eternal Lord’s tour calendar is fully booked, that their history is still just about managing to precede them, and that their live show has gone from very good to fucking incredible.

a little harsh don't ya think. i believe the band has potential, ed has his vocals strengthened, have to say the drummer can do some crazy shit, guitarists have their good moments, and bad, but this is only their debut. i loved it as a matter of fact, but im not going to be a douche and side with anything. in your instance, give them time, we'll see what happens on the sophmore release.

Guys the reviewer is right, this album is seriously average, take away the bands image, myspace and all the ass kissing that goes with them and you have an incredibly average album.

This review sucks. Eternal Lord's CD is awesome. EL can't be matched with BMTH and Dead to Fall, which by the way, TOTALLY suck. Ed's vocals are totally awesome, I haven't heard anything as original as his, sure he has his lows and highs, but I haven't heard a band like his. If you're going to criticize Eternal Lord if you only listened to Bring Me the Horizon, they are the worst band in the genre. Basically, I wanna send a big "FUCK YOU NOOB" to the reviewer of this CD.

i agree with fuckyousimonldiplockcock lol this reviewer hasn't got the simplest idea what hes on about. and im no just a pissed off fan, i really think this album is amazing and to give such a review you would have to be a complete noob or just a plain dickhead.

This album is amazing. It does have that "tough" guy type heavy attitude to it I'm not going to lie but throughout the album it shows so many different sides of a man. There are beautiful guitar parts on the album the really pull them away from the other bands out there. They aren't all tough and Acacia strain wannabees they are fuckin' real and that's the truth. and to whomever reviewed this CD you're just another lambgoatflamewhore.keep trollin', nobody's gonna like you either way...lawl.
